CYNTHIA MOSS
This is one of Cynthia Moss's books "Elephant
Memories: Thirteen Years in the Life of an Elephant Family" that Theresa brought to
the Wilderness Travel's "Perspectives on East Africa" symposium at Tanzania in
March, 1999.
- The subject of several television and film documentaries,
Cynthia Moss is the well-known director of the Amboseli Elephant Research Project, which
she founded in 1972. Since the project's inception, she and her staff have identified and
recorded more than 1,400 elephants, and they continually traverse the park monitoring
elephant family groups and independent males and working to protect the elephant
population from poachers. She has written several books, including Portraits in the Wild:
Animal Behavior in East Africa and Echo of the Elephants: Thee Story of an Elephant
Family. [Wilderness Travel's Symposium Information]
Bill Abbot, the founder and president of Wilderness
Travel, was introducing Cynthia Moss.
Cynthia Moss presented her slide show, which Theresa
and I enjoyed tremendously. I especially enjoyed those pictures of Amboseli elephants with
the snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background!
Cynthia examined a couple of the elephant photos
that we took at Amboseli in 1991. She also graciously autographed them.
Cynthia identified this youngster as Toby.
Here was a group of elephants in Amboseli National
Park, Kenya in 1991.
Cynthia graciously autographed her book. "To
Theresa, With best wishes, Cynthia Moss. Serengeti March 3, 1999" Note that it's only
to Theresa--how about me?! :-)
Just look at Theresa grinning from ear-to-ear. What
a great experience to meet Cynthia Moss.
