Day 55: 3/10/99: Baden-Baden

IM002145.jpg (60038 bytes) Despite the rain we were happy to be on the road because we did not have to spend another night at that blasted castle :-)

IM002146.jpg (74882 bytes) It was a tough day of driving as Theresa was trying to navigate. I did not make her job any easier by not having a detailed city map of Stuttgart. Why Stuttgart even though it was not on our way to Baden Baden? Well, this is the city where Theresa family came from. We thought it was a good chance for us to discover her roots. Unfortunately we got lost trying to get to the city center.

IM002147.jpg (86409 bytes) Eventually we ended up in this department store at the edge of city. Who knows? May be some of Theresa distant relatives have shopped here!

IM002148.jpg (66167 bytes) Mamooth elephant furniture.

IM002149.jpg (118916 bytes) It was a multi-story department store.

IM002150.jpg (102387 bytes) Of course, being elephant lovers we liked the store mascot.

IM002151.jpg (117238 bytes) Everything was neatly displayed. I don't remember if we bought anything here. I'll ask Theresa later.

IM002152.jpg (64081 bytes) We were driving toward the center of Stuttgart.

IM002153.jpg (48229 bytes) See. We were really in Stuttgart. We vowed one of these days to return and spend more time here.

IM002156.jpg (56099 bytes) After all that driving we were happy to get to our hotel in Baden Baden. It was one of the best places that we have ever stayed. Very fancy. Gee, I cannot wait to jump in and use the jacuzzi tub.

IM002157.jpg (64897 bytes) The suite was spacious and included a sitting area.

IM002159.jpg (63829 bytes) We were now experts at traveling with duffel bags.

IM002160.jpg (68458 bytes) This nice, comfortable bed was more like staying at a story-book castle, unlike our previous experience. Notice the nice pillows. Of course, we were ecstatic that this was a non-smoking room.

IM002161.jpg (54792 bytes) From our room we had a nice view of a nearby church.

IM002162.jpg (92695 bytes) A little rain did not damper our spirits as we took a stroll around town. It was nice that our hotel was right

IM002164.jpg (68530 bytes)

IM002166.jpg (75351 bytes) Yummy. Apple studdle ala mode at the place called Amadeus.

IM002167.jpg (61244 bytes)

IM002168.jpg (45537 bytes) What's wrong with this picture. Theresa and I enjoyed a nice bubble bath. However, we did not know how to turn off the jet after we were done. In fact, the bubble got larger and more. Finally I called up the front desk and was reliefed to learn that the jet will turn off automatically after the water is drained more than half way.

IM002169.jpg (55652 bytes)

IM002170.jpg (42489 bytes)

IM002171.jpg (30445 bytes) A nice view of a church right outside our window.

IM002172.jpg (82282 bytes) We were about to enjoy a delicious breakfast.

IM002173.jpg (100854 bytes) Yummy. I got to fatten myself some more after our big Kili hike.

IM002175.jpg (101176 bytes) A painting of the Little Prince, the namesake of our romantic hotel.
