Beijing Opera

I thought I would be asleep at the Beijing Opera performance. It was actually very interesting. Okay, I also appreciated some of the snacks on the table. :-)

It is pathetic that the words that the Chinese opera singers sang were translated into 5th-grade elementary English. It's like taking Shakespeare and butchered it into elementary-school English. At least I appreciated the strength, the subtlety, and the poetry in the songs.

I guess I must be getting older. Two weeks ago I found myself enjoying a western symphony, and today I was enjoying a Beijing opera performance.

Again today I found myself very impressed by all the new buildings and wide boulevards that were built since the '80's and '90's. I guess building a road does not require public hearings and environmental impact study here in China!
