Temple of Heaven

After lunch we went to the Temple of Heaven. It was very impressive. Just think 100 years ago Chinese emperor came here to pray for a bountiful harvest. In less than 100 years common people can visit as tourists. Quite a dramatic change indeed.  As I was walking toward  the main building on this very, very grand boulevard, I felt a sense of being proud of being Chinese. It was a good feeling, sensing that it was homecoming for me!

Built in 1420, the Temple of Heaven served as a place where Ming and Qing emperors came to pray for a bountiful harvest.

We got back to the hotel early. Since Theresa was not around, I decided to explore the surrounding neighborhood on foot. I walked toward Lufthansa center, which is a fancy department store catering to the well-heeled. I wonder who can really afford the well-stocked  shelves.

I mostly windowed shopped, but bought these tea flowers from Fukkien.

I also bought a few items at the Phoenix Bakery.
