Day 22 2/5/99
So I returned to
the AT&T Pro-Am the next day. First, I picked up David, a friend from work. We
then drove down to Pebble beach and had breakfast at Fremont Bank's house. Look at
all the food that I got to eat.
Click here for the Pebble Beach course
layout. We went went to Pebble Beach. In this case we were interested more in the
course rather than the players.
We did see Christ
O'Donnell playing. Who is he? He played Robin in "Batman Forever," and also
starred in "The Three Musketeers." He is fueling up with a banana and getting
ready to tee-off at the 4th hole.
Here I was at
Pebble Beach with the 4th, 5th hole and the Beach Club in the background. This is probably
the only way I can afford being here on this course as the greens fee is $295, excluding
cart! On the other hand, if I ever break 80, then I'll treat myself to a round of golf
here. This course is gorgeous; I'm especially impressed with all the holes that line the
edge of the Pacific Ocean.
Look at the 7th
hole. It's a par-3 107-yard from the back tee. Looks easy? Look at the huge bunkers and
the slightly oversized water hazard--the Pacific Ocean :-) It gets really tricky when the
wind is blowing.
Look at one
of these gorgeous houses that line the fairways at Pebble Beach. I wonder who lives in
this house--I mean mansion. If I play here, I'm sure that one of my balls will break a
window :-)
After Pebble Beach we
decided to head over to Poppy Hills as Tiger and crowd is playing there today. This course
has five par-5's and has beautiful tress lining the fairways.
Click here for a large panoramic shot of the area near the club house.
Are we here to
watch golf, interview golfers, or get autographs? The reporters on the right hand side are
all anxiously jockeying for positions for an exclusive interview. The fans are also
anxiously looking for opportunities to get just one more autograph to add to their
collection. You don't think I came all the way from Fremont to collect autographs? Did I
stoop that low?
To be
honest, in the afternoon I spent more time getting autographs than watching golf. Look at
my accomplishments. So could one of these autographs be Tiger's? Click on the autographs
to find out.
He is one of those no-name, no-face PGA pro who is grinding away on the tour. No win
and no info. The Dog Pile search engine on the internet turned up ZERO hits!
Famed country
music star, especially for his Rhinestone Cowboys.
From Austin, TX with 19 career PGA tour wins.
Mr. 59 himself
with his signature sunglasses. He recently shot a 59--6 pars, 11 birdies, and 1 eagle. I
sometimes shoot a 59 also--on a 9-hole course!
(From ESPN) Set a
PGA Tour record in 1997 by finishing fourth on the money list with $1,619,480 without a
victory ... Had 13 top-10 finishes to match Davis Love III for most on the Tour. That
number included eight in a row at one point ... Lost playoff to Paul Stankowski at 1997
Hawaiian Open ... Won first Tour event in 1995 in Las Vegas by one shot over Billy Mayfair
... Won second Tour event, also in a playoff, in Hawaii after Brad Faxon made an eagle on
the 72nd hole to force sudden death ... Two-time All-American and two-time All-Pac-10
selection at Arizona.

He hit 56 home runs in 1997.
He was 3 feet
away. His hands were 1 foot away from my gallery pass. Did I say
"Hi Tiger"
"You are my wife's and my favorite golfer."
"My wife is born in the year of the Tiger."
"My wife and I are an inter-racial married couple like your parents."
"Just bought a new pair of Nike golf shoes."
"Please sign--this is a Valentine's day present for my wife."
Nope--I was a dope. I said nothing. Tiger turned and went to the other side to sign
autographs. I guess there is always next year. That does it, I'm going to the 2000
AT&T Pro-Am. Golf, who cares about golf--I'm getting Tiger's autograph for sure next
year :-)
