Day 15 1/29/99:
After doing some chores
at home--like mowing the lawn and spraying Roundup weed killer, I took BART to Berkeley to
meet Theresa for dinner. It was a nice ride on BART as I read my Golf magazine. Got a lot
of nice hints, especially the one about not to re-grip the club after the practice swings.
Before
dinner we went to One Club to exercise and increase our appetite--as if we need to do that
at all as we always have a good appetite. Here was Theresa before she beat me at
racquetball for having the higher combined scores for three games.

We had seafood at Scott's
seafood at Jack London Square in Oakland. This is Theresa's favorite after-dinner
drink--an espresso with a twist of lemon. It went great with her creme brulee. It seems
that in the past 6 months we have been at Jack London Square more than we have been there
in the past 10 years. They really have done an excellent job of revitalizing that area.
It's really pleasant to stroll around. Besides, Theresa's favorite Barns and Nobles
bookstore is there.
Day 16 1/30/99:
We went on a half-day retreat
with friends in Oakland.

If you want to eat the best
hot dog in the world, search no more. Just go to Top Dog. There are several locations.
This one is located in Montclair. I had a New York frank for lunch. As usual it was
delicious as I piled on the sour kraut, mustard, ketchup, and relish. The best part of the
hotdog is actually the sesame seed buns. Yummy! It served as dinner on several occasions
during my U.C. Berkley graduate school days.
So sorry Alex. As much
as Theresa and I really like Starbucks and also like to support you since you work there,
our favorite coffee to brew at home is still Peet's coffee. They are roasted so dark and
rich. My favorite is always their French roast. Delicious.
We invited Lisa and
Allen for playing Jazz Mah Jong at our house. They were not quite convinced by the way we
score the winning hands according to the "Official El Cerrito Senior Citizen
rules;" however, by the end of evening they got the hang of it. In fact, Lisa closed
the evening by winning a limit hand of 1000 points by having 5 doubles: one for a pong of
table wind, one for a pong of dragons, and 3 doubles for having all pongs of the
same suite! See Lisa holding the 1000 points chip--it's a good thing that we don't gamble
with money. Impressive. Allen and I had our shares of winning hands. Theresa was so
close so many times but did not win one single hand! Fortunately, she was very happy how
the evening turned out as she got a surprise birthday present from Lisa. She got one of
those humongous coffee cup. Now it's up to me to fill it up with coffee. Find out if I do
that the next morning...
