We were very impressed with the nice room at Ahwahnee
Hotel, which is in the heart of Yosemite Valley. We were fortunate to get this
nice room. Of course, we made the reservation for this room exactly one year
ago! This is a picture of a cute rubber duckie in the bathroom. |
A comfortable bed for us after a long drive. Actually we
were pleasantly surprised by the relatively short drive (3.5 hours from
Fremont) and delighted by a very scenic drive on high way 140. |
Luckily from our room we have a nice view of the Yosemite
Fall, which is the tallest fall in North America. It's 2425 feet. |
You can see the snow covered ground right below our room on
the third floor. |
The room was comfortable and spacious. A nice sitting area
for us to spread out to read and relax. |
A most curious and attractive way to hold a hand towel with
the bath towel. |
A most delectable salad for lunch at Ahwahnee. |
We also rewarded ourselves with a nice dessert of chocolate
mouse wrapped inside thin crepes and topped with ice cream and caramel sauce.
Yummy. We better find ways to burn off all these calories! |
We could not wait to try our snowshoes on Saturday
afternoon. |
We simply walked in the areas right behind the Ahwahnee
hotel. |
A most grand, imposing, yet warm hotel. This would be our
home away from home for the next several days. |
There she goes. Theresa was doing some turbo snowshoeing :-) |
This would have been a difficult place to plan tennis--notice that
the net was almost completely topped by snow. |
We crossed over the Merced river. |
Around a bend in the road/trail we were delighted by a nice
view of Half Dome. |

What's the best thing about snow shoeing? Why, it's the
opportunity to eat a hearty and warm meal afterwards without feeling guilty
since we have burned off all these calories :-) |
Crème Brulee, anyone? This is definitely one of Theresa
and mine all time favorite desserts. |
Next day we proceeded to drive around and then randomly picked a
spot to start snowshoeing. |
Look at the depth of the snow as we snowshoed. |

Higher and higher. We reached the cliff. |
This was a "peak a boo" day. We had a glimpse of
Half Dome. |

Some water was dribbling down the cliff side. Later on we
found out that some people go rock climbing in this area in the summer. |
