Maui: March 14
We started the morning with a double latte with non-fat milk for Theresa
and a cup of hot mango tea for me. This was a good way to start our day of
adventure.
I could not help it. I peeked at a free copy of Wall Street Journal and
checked the Intel stock price.

As usual I had two plateful of breakfast. (No wonder I gained so many pounds on
this vacation--actually I refused to weigh myself after getting back from
vacation. :-)
We left Ritz-Carlton for our day of Maui adventure.

After breakfast we took a short drive toward the north side of Maui looking
for this lighthouse in order to take a short hike. We never found it. However,
we did stop at this little beach where three guys were surfing.
A nice view of the island of Lani across the water.
We were hoping to snorkel at Honolua Bay, which was one of the 4 reserves in
Maui. Unfortunately this is a place that only has calm water during the summer.
Today there were many people bogey boarding and riding the waves. So we
retreated.

We then ended up at the Kahekili Beach Park (Old Airport Beach). It's a little
tough to get into the
water. However, once I got in, the water was fine. The fish here are fewer than
Kapalua Bay. I did enjoy wearing my wetsuit top, which kept me nice and warm.
Theresa enjoyed her hike up and down the beach.

As you can see that once in a while my underwater Canon Elph Sport camera worked
great if the water was clear and the fish didn't move away too fast.
A scuba diving class. Looks like great fun.
For lunch we bought some to-go chef, Greek, and fruit salad and enjoyed a
meal on our lani at our hotel.

"Yes, life
is full of risks." At the Ironwood Ranch, we signed our lives away :-)
The highlight of the day was the sunset horseback ride at the Ironwood Ranch
( http://www.maui.net/~barefoot/maui/horsebackmaui_.html
).
We rode for two hours among the pineapple fields and trees. Theresa was
riding Candice Bergen. I was riding Steven Segal. Why this is picture so weird?
Why is the horizon not horizontal? It was difficult for me to take a picture of
Theresa while my horse was trotting down the trail :-)
We rode through
forest and pineapple fields.

As it turned out that for the whole time that we were on Maui, we got exactly
three drops of rain. We were very fortunate that we not only stayed dry during
our ride, but we also got to enjoy a beautiful Anuenue--rainbow in Hawaiian.
The Anuenue, which is rainbow in Hawaiian.
We were in a small group of 4
people. The couple in front of us was on their honeymoon. They were impressed by
the rainbow also.
Sunset was
gorgeous.

We then drove to Laihana for dinner. We never found the Thai Chef but really
enjoyed a n Italian dinner at Longhi. I had Longhi prawns on a bed of fettuccine,
and Theresa had lobster cannelloni. The couple sitting next to us had a lobster
platter for two. They heard that we were from San Francisco and inquired us
about French Laundry. Ironically this will be the place where we will be having
dinner to celebrate our 16th anniversary on June 2.
It's funny that there are all these people on their honeymoons. They are
still so young and innocent. So we decided to call ourselves the "old
gizzards from the Ritz" :-)
