Maui: March 13
We woke up to a gloriously sunny and warm morning at Ritz-Carlton at Kapalua,
Maui. Maybe we will get a chance to swim in that three-tiered swimming pool.
We enjoyed another sumptuous breakfast buffet.
Theresa and I could get used to eating
breakfast like this.
We had a great view of the central court of the Ritz Carlton at Kapalua, Maui.
I was disappointed that instead of hash brown, they had only
country fried potato. However, I cheered myself up with a huge breakfast and
especially a Belgian waffle topped with whipped cream, macadamia nuts, and
melted chocolate sauce!

We then drove to Kapalua Bay to snorkel. It's a popular spot, but parking was
impossible. We had to park along the streets and walked for 15 minutes. However,
the walk was well with it. Even though Sunset magazine has chosen this being the
most beautiful beach in the world, I disagree. It was nice, but I just cannot
believe that this is the world's best. Theresa and I did enjoy snorkeling in the
water.
There are spots where the water was very cold. I even saw Theresa's goose
pimples underwater. That's the reason that later on that evening we traded in
our floatation vest for a wetsuit top.
I used some of the approved fish food,
instead of the frozen peas, in the water to attract some fish. Well, it was successful. I did cause a few feeding
frenzies.
In fact, one of these large
puffer fish actually bit the palm of my left hand! Ouch! I even bled a little.
Nevertheless, that fish remained one of my favorites because instead of using
its tail fin it was using its dorsal fin to propel itself. It was fascinating to
watch.
Here was I under water in action.

After our final snorkel, we got back to our hotel to wash up. We then had
juicy hamburgers for lunch down by the beach at the hotel. It was great enjoying
the beautiful scenery while munching down lunch. Theresa even had a mai tai
during lunch.

We then rented bicycles. We were able to negotiate the price down to $15 for
two for an hour since we only had on hour before 5pm. We then rode around. Boy,
I must be out of shape. The first hill out of the resort almost killed me, and
it did not help that my tummy was filled with a large hamburger and a plateful
of French fries. We then drove down past Kapalua Bay Hotel down to where we
snorkeled earlier. I'm almost a little leery about riding where the road is
narrow and without official bicycling path. Fortunately, we did not get hit.
The
highlight of the ride of making it to the top of the Pineapple hill, where there
were many expensive homes with million-dollars view of Maui and Molokai that's
across the water. We then made it back just before the bicycle rental place
closed.

The resort has three beautiful swimming pools, and I finally got a chance to
check out one of them. I swim a little bit in this warm pool, even though it was
pretty windy.
Theresa and I both enjoyed the Jacuzzi briefly. It was nice to soothe
our sore muscles after all that snorkeling and bicycling.

Prior to dinner we had a fun shopping spree at Star, a local supermarket. We
stocked up on water, soft drinks, Maui potato chips, and most importantly, some
dark chocolate-covered Macadamia nuts!

We topped off our day of adventure by having dinner at A Pacific Cafe. We
went to its sister restaurants in Kauai before. We were not disappointed. I had
shutome--similar to swordfish.
Theresa had a seared rare Ahi tuna. Both of the
dinner had very exotic pan-Asian sauces. It's a pity that we did not make room
for dessert!
Since I'm a Pisces, it's only appropriate for me to celebrate my birthday in
front this this panel of two fish.
