Welcome to Stephen's Mid-Life Crisis Command, Control, and Communication Center!

39.99th Birthday Celebration

I celebrated my 39.99th birthday in year 2000-2001 with 39.99 activities!

This WEB site is dedicated to my favorite non-profit organization: African Elephant Conservation Trust, which helps to fund Cynthia Moss's research and conservation efforts in Amboseli, Kenya. By the way, becoming the volunteer webmaster for AECT was my best birthday celebration!

Please come back frequently to read my photo journal of each of my adventures.

    "BIG SUR INTERNATIONAL MARATHON--NOT QUITE"

Well, I didn't think that I was quite up to a marathon, not this year anyway. So Theresa and I did  the 10.6 miles walk  from Rocky Point to Carmel.
  22. * DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST MUSICAL (under construction)
    June, Orpheum Theatre (http://www.bestofbroadway-sf.com/)
Is this a more enjoyable musical than Theresa's favorite "Ms. Saigon" or my favorite "Phantom of the Opera"?
Summer brings Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Broadway's smash hit musical, nominated for nine 1994 Tony Awards including Best Musical. This eye-popping spectacle, based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, is filled with technical wizardry, special effects and illusions, as well as dazzling production numbers. The Chicago Tribune raved, "a tip-top production, lavishly produced, inventively executed," and Joel Siegel of "Good Morning America" asserted, "you'll have the time of your life." Enchanting for children and engaging for adults, Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will bring a bit of magic to everyone.

July, Sea Princess, Princess Cruise (http://www.princess.com/)
How many games of Mah-Jong will my family play while celebrating my parents' 50th wedding anniversary?
You haven't seen anything until you've seen a slab of ice hundreds of feet high crack off the face of a glacier and crash with a sound like thunder into an ice-blue bay. And you haven't experienced the real Alaska until you've sailed beyond the Inside Passage to encounter the rugged, 18,000-foot peaks of the South-central coast. Princess Inside Passage cruises feature the frontier-friendly ports of Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway; and the pristine beauty of Glacier Bay

The best present I gave to myself was starting to take the ACE train to work! It saved my life!

  32. Feb/2001
The best present that the Easy Bay gave me was the Chabot Space and Science Center--the Planetarium and the Megadome Theater is simply outstanding!
  33. Jan/2001
The best present that the City of Fremont gave me is the
Family Golf Center at Fremont 39751 Stevenson Place Fremont. Unfortunately, Family Golf Center went bankrupt already; however, it will remain in business. Is this the place where I got to play with Annika Sorenstam, one of my favorite LPGA golfers?? No way! :-) I do have her autograph from a few years ago, though. Here is just a token photograph of her instead of the golf course in Fremont.
  34. 2000
A great way to keep trim and fit is to exercise. There is no better way than to use the Concept II rowing machine. It's one of my favorite ways to exercise. However, I did hurt my back once. My original goal was to row 1 million meters but did not make it. However, I did row over 400,000 meters. :-)
  35. Ticket.jpg (75578 bytes) 5/1/2000
This is strange. Why is there a parking ticket? Ironically I parked for just a few minutes outside of this home in Los Angeles before seeing Cynthia Moss to discuss about the African Elephant Conservation Trust web design. On odd days I was not suppose to park on one side of the street. Who would have known?! I was pretty mad--until I realized that the ticket was for $40! Great, I paid it gladly :-)
  36. Aut11472.jpg (62614 bytes) Valentine, 2000
I love silent auction. I just could not resist bidding on this very special Valentine Basket at the Service for Brain Injury (SBI) charity auction and dinner. Besides, I have not bought anything else for Theresa yet for Valentine :-)
  37. IM000000.jpg (34668 bytes) May, 2000
My Uncle Feng celebrated his 80th birthday. I could not pass the chance of giving him 2 40-years birthday cards! :-)
  38. IM000031.jpg (30745 bytes) May, 2000
It's a Chinese tradition in my family to have a bowl of longevity noodles in the morning for breakfast. My mother would always make two hard boiled eggs with the red Chinese longevity character. You are not suppose to cut the noodles short. It's important to keep the noodles, thus life, long and un-cut. Actually my mother fixed this bowl of noodles for my Dad's birthday. My Dad will be celebrating his 2*40=80 years birthday on May 16, 2001.!
  39. Aut14705.jpg (26227 bytes) Sept, 2000
I must be getting old. A game of volleyball between the managers and engineers resulted in the managers being soundly beaten!

Our niece Heather moved in while she is going to San Francisco State. Rondo really appreciated her being here because we are more likely to take a walk together.

Advent Candles: 4 + 1 :-)

Aut16060.jpg (31042 bytes)

Today is 3/15/2001. I'm about to turn -- nope, not 41 but -- 40.1 on 3/16/2001 :-)

I'm looking forward to turning 79.99 (or 40.40) because I get to do 79.99 events to celebrate my birthday! I figure by then Theresa will allow me to go sky diving :-) Maybe...

Backroads (http://www.backroads.com/) offers this exotic trip: Steal away to an island paradise along the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. The Caribbean Sea surrounds the coconut palm oasis of our private island, where we kayak through clear waters and snorkel among colorful fish inhabiting such world-famous coral formations as the Hole in the Wall and the Cabbage Patch. At day’s end we return to our cabanas, where hammocks provide front-row lounging for the Caribbean sunset. And the mainland jungle beckons as well—the first three days of our Belizean adventure are spent mountain biking on quiet trails through the broadleaf forest, hiking to Maya ruins and canoeing on the Macal River. Each evening at our jungle lodge finds us feasting on Belizean specialties before being lulled to sleep by a symphony of cicadas. Click here for more details.

Snowshoeing over Piute Pass in the Sierras (only 11,400ft..some side hikes to 12-13, nothing like Kili) and it was quite rigorous but oh so beautiful. We carried everything ourselves including food, tents and sleeping gear..it weighed 45lbs!

If you want to go climbing again, go to Sydney, Australia and climb the harbor bridge. It only takes a few hours, you get a great view, and it’s infinitely easier than Kili.
