Yuan He Hometown
It is the best little town that grew up to be a city
Yuan He was a small sleepy town in the 1960's, which has now became a vibrant
city. I lived on a small street, which has been widened to be a wide road with
city busses running on it. I lived in a small house, which has been torn down to
make way for an apartment complex with stores on the ground floor. There are so
many dramatic changes. Yet there are enough things to help me remember my
childhood. It has been 31 years ago since I graduated from the primary school.
On this visit my heart was moved by the sight of a street sign indicating an
alley that I used to walk from our house to the primary school everyday. Our
home address was #32. The largest movie theatre at Yuan He has now became vacant
and dilapidated. Thankfully all the street vendors hawking all sort of good
things to eat were still around. Driving by the several famous soybean milk and
Chinese donut breakfast restaurants, such as Four Seas or Universal, bring back
fond memories. I've been away from Yuan He both in term of great distance and
time; however, I will never forget Yuan He which I call home.
