Kahaluu Beach Park: A Snorkeler's Heaven

Theresa and I have always loved to snorkel. We consider a snorkel outing to be an essential part of any vacation in Hawaii or Caribbean. After multiple snorkel trips on the different islands of Hawaii, we found Kahaluu to be one of the best places that we have ever snorkeled because of the calm ocean, clear water, and large fish. Ironically we tried to snorkel on the first Saturday that we got to Kailua-Kona but were unable to do so due to getting lost first and then finding the sky to be too dark when we arrived. We finally went on the Friday before our departure. We were lucky to leave such a climax toward the end of our vacation! Besides, how many places in the world can you swim with turtles? And at least 4 turtles at the same time :-)

Who can tell me what fish is this? I was so pleased with this underwater photo taken with my water-proof Elph Sport APS camera that I made this the home image for this web.

I had a close encounter with this turtle.

It paid no attention to me as it was busy feeding.

I am always fond of the puffer fish. I still remember the guy who took a bit of my hand in Maui. It was really my fault because I fed it. For the sake of the environment and the safety of the fish, I'm no longer feeding fish while I snorkel.

While Theresa read and relaxed, I snorkeled several times.

Theresa snorkeled with me once. She had a great time.

She even pointed out this jelly fish to me. I did not want to get stung so I was careful not to get too close.

I'm already looking forward to my next adventure at the Kahaluu Beach Park. It has good facility. I also liked the vending truck parked there all day so I can get an ice cream cone :-)

While we ate a simple lunch at the adjacent restaurant (perhaps part of Keauhou Beach Resort) we also saw one turtle basking under the warm sun.
