Volcano National Park

Oahu is known for its tourists, Kauai is known for its lushness, Maui is known for its resorts and beaches, and Big Island is know for its active volcanoes. So the main reason for Theresa and I for coming here was to see, smell, and walk around and inside volcanoes. The best place to experience volcano was the Volcano National Park.

020_20_s_w.jpg 6.7KAfter a brief but important bathroom break at the Kilauea Visitor Center--it was at least a 2- hour drive from Kailua-Kona, we walked across the street to the Volcano House Hotel. What a view!

We started our road trip on the Crater Rim Drive going counter-clockwise. Our first stop was the Steam Vents. This was a good place to get a steam bath. :-)

Theresa noticed some offerings to Pele by unknown native Hawaiians.
