Thurston Lava Tube

One of the most interesting and unusual attractions at the Volcano Nation Park is the Thurston Lava Tube. It was fascinating to walk INSIDE an actual lava tube. Fortunately for us, lava has not been flowing through this for many years because we did not bring our asbestos suit :-)

The puny flash on my camera could not light up the Lava Tube even though there were dim lights.

A group of tourists asked us to take their picture. They then returned the favor.

At the entrance.

Dark and moist. The guidebook suggested that we could continue to explore the darker half of the tube that's was not lit. Forget that! My flashlight was useless as it was pitch black dark. I think it's only possible to explore the darker half if I have a hardhat, gloves, water-proof clothing, and an industrial-strength floodlight!

We were impressed by the lush tropical rainforest outside.

Green was the predominant color in every direction that we turned.

Thurston Lava Tube was a quick but memorable place to explore.
