wailuafall.jpg (59052 bytes) Wailua Fall. Frankly, if you have been to Niagara Falls you will be disappointed. However, this is the famous waterfall that's shown in the beginning of Fantasy Island. It's worth the short 15-minutes detour from the main highway through some sugar cane fields. However, we were disappointed that we were not able to go hiking near the fall since the place is fenced off due to some liability reasons. We did see a couple thinking about jumping over the fence.  This is a place worth taking a few pictures.
kilauea.jpg (49698 bytes) The north shore near the Kilauea lighthouse. The water is clear and warm. Kilauea lighthouse is also home to the National Wildlife Refuse. There were plenty of birds flying around. Don't just want to jump in. Click on the picture to see the full view.
hanalei.jpg (32409 bytes) Hanalei. This is the view of the Hanalei Bay from Princeville Hotel. We had lunch there. Life does not get better than having a relaxing lunch with my lovely wife at Kauai. It was also fun to see some birds trying to go for the bread crumbs. There was even one bird that earned Theresa's sympathy because it was hopping on just one leg.
fern.jpg (84350 bytes) Fern Grotto. This is the most touristy thing we did. On the last full day of our trip we decided to take it easy and took the cruise boat to visit the Fern Grotto. Okay, I admit it's a little hokey. It was an interesting thing to see. However, on our next trip I think I would like to paddle ourselves there by doing the Kayak thing.
kalalau.jpg (45462 bytes) Kalalau Valley from the Puu o Kila lookout. After driving by the Waimea Canyon we arrived at the lookout. We were lucky to get a glimpse of the beautiful Kalalau Valley when the misty cloud broke. It's definitely worth the drive there.

If I have to pick one resort to stay in Kauai I will choose the Hyatt Regency. (Of course, our first choice will still be our bed and breakfast inn.) We liked Dondero's restaurant. I must admit the best place to have a drink is at the Seaview Terrace because you just cannot beat the view from there. Gorgeous. Also, this is the place where I first tasted Lava Flow, which is a pina colada combined with strawberry daiquiri. Yummy. What a great way to cap off a day of bicycling, horseback ridding, or doing nothing at all :-)
princecafe.jpg (41171 bytes) Princeville. It's more elegant than Hyatt Regency. Its golf course is more highly rated. I definitely need to lower my handicap in the next few years so I can play there. One golf addict at work claimed that Princeville is the best course that he had ever played at. We enjoyed our sunset cocktail at the Library. We did checked out one room. The most interesting feature is a full LCD panel that blinks on and off to block off the bathroom from the bedroom. However, the room is expensive at close to $400! I think we will stick with our bed and breakfast inn.
marriot.jpg (53525 bytes) Marriot. This is the place that used to be Westin, where our friends used to like to go all the time. We understand that it has shed its previous gaudiness. It has a nice pool and beach area. I enjoyed an icee after walking around in the hot sun.
