dondero.jpg (64427 bytes) Dondero's, which is located at Hyatt Regency at Poipu. It's an elegant Italian restaurant. We were fortunate to be able to sit outside underneath some tiki torches and enjoy a romantic garden view. The best thing of all-- very few mosquitoes :-)
piatti.jpg (39811 bytes) Piatti, which is located at Plantation Garden in the Kiahuna Plantation Resort. Enter across from Poipu Shopping Village. Previously we have been to Piatti at Carmel and Palo Alto so we know we will get a great meal. We were not disappointed. We got to sit outside. Yes, I'm a sucker for tiki torches at night. The night time temperature was just perfect. It was yet another romantic and relaxing dinner after a whole day of trekking around the island and snorkeling at some of our favorite spots.
pacificcafe.jpg (46549 bytes) A Pacific Cafe, which is in Kauai Village in Kapaa off Kuhio Highway. This restaurant is highly recommended by our friends before our trip. Well, there is no view of the ocean. There are no tiki touches. However, the food is excellent and the presentation is gorgeous. My dinner was almost too beautiful to eat. Later on we also visited its companion restaurant Beach House Restaurant at Poipu Beach. It was equally excellent. Two advantages of Beach House are that it does have an excellent view, especially around sunset, and also after a heavy lunch one can always relax by snorkeling right next to the restaurant!
bubba.jpg (44654 bytes) Bubba's Burger. I'm sorry to say that our favorite hamburger place is still Fat Apple at Berkeley, California. Bubba's does have good fries. Most interesting of all, it has a WEB page, proclaiming Bubba's Burger is the only burger joint on the WEB.
popo.jpg (35444 bytes) Popo's Cookies. You just have to try out Butter Dreams. They are delicious. It's in a strip mall at Kappa, Kauai. Thanks to Gina for making the recommendation. We searched for this place for several days and we were glad we did. Ironically we also found out that they sell Popo's cookies at the airport.
We also had excellent meals at some other places. We thoroughly enjoyed the view of Hanalei Bay when we had lunch at the grand Princeville Hotel. We also enjoyed a homey meal at Casa di Amici after visiting the Kilauea Lighthouse. Another great Asian fusion-style restaurant is Roy's, which is located in the Poipu Shopping Village at 2360 Kiahuna Plantation Dr. The chef is Roy Ramaguchi, who combines the best of Asian and French cooking techniques to deliver some unforgettable meals. Yummy.
