Kauai Favorites (1997)
Aloha. In September 1997 Theresa and I visited Kauai, Hawaii for the first time. This
is the story about our wonderful vacation. Come with us and we will show some sights
around this beautiful, intimate, and romantic "Garden Isle."
After 5 hours of flying on American Transworld Airway on an Airbus, we
touched down at Honolulu, Oahu. We were greeted by a representative from Pleasant
Hawaiian Holidays. She hang flower lei around our necks. It's just amazing to see some of
these beautiful tropical blossoms and smell the fragrance. We then took a quick flight to
Kauai. After picking up our green convertible from Dollar Rent-A-Car at the Lihue airport,
we drove to Gloria's Spouting Horn
Bed-and-Breakfast at Poipu. It became our home for the next 9 days/8 nights. I
surprised Theresa by calling ahead for a tropic flower arrangement. I told the store to do
something spectacular. I thought they did a wonderful job.
This is a picture of me standing outside on the lanais
at our bed & breakfast inn. We were just 30 feet away from the surf. I must say that
the sound of the surf is REALLY loud. Instead of being soothed by the gentle waves, we
were energized by the pounding and surging whitewaters. Fortunately, we were never
bothered. Yes, after 8 days of waiting and watching, we did catch a glimpse of the green
sea turtles. Sorry I have no pictures to show. You just have to trust me on that one :-)
After a nice drink (my favorite was a drink called Lava Flow) at the grand resort Hyatt Regency at sunset and a
quick walk along the Poipu beach. We went to bed. The next morning, being Sunday, we
decided to go to church. It turns out that Saint Raphael happens to be the oldest church
on Kauai.
After the service we walked around the grounds and then
drove toward the west side of the island because Theresa was in the mode to do a little
hiking.
